Our client is seeking an Intermediate/Sr. Database Administrator to join their development team. This is a full-time position based in their Toronto office. This position will be primarily responsible for designing, managing, and maintaining a large-scale highly transactional database in MySQL.

Responsibilities:

* Work with developers to design and implement new database for large-scale social networking application

* Establish/maintain procedures for maintenance and backups

* Migrate existing MySQL database structure to new design that will revolutionize the web

* Assist and mentor engineers regarding their erroneous ways of querying the database

* Work closely with operations and QA to build and refresh test database

* Kick ass and take names

Requirements:

* Must have at least 4-6+ years of experience of administration of large scale enterprise databases

* Must have database & applications design and development experience in high-volume transactional applications

* Expert level with MySQL on Linux (Red Hat a plus)

* Expert with creating logical and physical data models

* Proven ability to create, optimize and debug reliable scalable SQL

* Experience with performance tuning, sharding, backups and other database maintenance tasks

* Thorough understanding of Social Networking and Web 2.0 technologies

* Ability to work in a small team and build consensus with colleagues
